Expectations–Five Minute Friday Style

It is another addition of the Five Minute Writing Challenge.

Something I picked up from The Gypsy Mama

I love this idea. It is simple. 5 minutes of writing. What is neat about it is this, as she puts in her blog each Friday:

“No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation. Just painting with words. Finger-painting even.”

The rules are simple:

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

OK, here we go. Five minutes on this topic:

Expectations

Expectations always seem to be “great”. But “expectations” are usually comparisons of some sort. We set our expectations based upon what we think we can do, or what others have already done. In other words, a comparison. My expectations are actually “simple”. (Which may seem “complex”, ironically enough.)

I have hope and pray for a simple life. A life surrounded by family, friends, and my faith. But what it takes to achieve that simple expectation is often rather complex. So many factors to consider. Schedules, others lives not fitting into your schedule. Work causing other unique challenges to that simple life.

But anything worth having is always worth any struggle it takes to get to the goal. Or, rather, to reach those expectations. Our daughter just reached one year old this week. That means another visit to the pediatrician. And another set of expectations too. And not just the expectation of immunizations. I mean walking isn’t too far away. Nor is full on talking. We work with her on that. So why wouldn’t we keep working towards all our expectations? After all, no challenge, no reward. Know the challenge, know the reward.

(End)

Whew. Once I got going on this one, I didn’t want to stop. This topic may make for a future blog post. I really like this Five Minute Friday exercise. I really want to encourage you to check out the blog I first got the idea to participate in the exercise from. The Gypsy Mama

And give this a try too. Or, if you dare, just add your five minute thoughts to my comment section. I would never EXPECT you to, but I would be grateful if you did. (Sorry, I had to work that word in one more time…hehe.)
